Saturday October 11th, AlbumArte – the new contemporary art space in Rome – presents Meltingsun Live: a matinée and a brunch on the occasion of the 10th Day of Contemporary Art (Giornata del Contemporaneo) promoted by AMACI Association of Contemporary Art Museums.
Upon the invitation of Christine Rebet, the event will start at 12 p.m. with a conversation with the philosopher Emanuele Coccia, who will describe the connection between ornamentation and the perceivable forms of power. It will then be followed by a pre-recorded sound performance by Matteo Nasini on the theme of artificial fusion. Like two dedications, the interventions cross Meltingsun – the first solo show in Italy by Christine Rebet – moving the artworks and the whole environment.
Meltingsun Live is curated by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi and Maria Rosa Sossai in collaboration with Nero Magazine. The event will be continued on the website of Nero.
Christine Rebet lives and works in New York and Paris. Her work is based on the drawing and it develops into forms ranging from animation to the environment, installations and performance art. At the heart of her work is the elaboration of historical traumas in the context of a personal reinterpretation and a consequent reanimation. Rebet studied in Columbia University and Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, London. She has exhibited and held performances in various international contexts including: SITE, Santa Fé; Sculpture Center, Long Island – New York; Le Magasin, Grenoble; the Shangai Art Museum; Parasol Unit, London; the Kamel Mennour Gallery, Paris; Taka Ishii, Tokyo; X-initiative, New York; the Cartier Foundation, Paris; Unge Kunstneres Samfund (UKS), Oslo; Smack Mellon, Brooklyn – New York; the Gregor Podnar Gallery, Slovenia; the James Fuentes Gallery, New York; the Guild and Greyskhul Gallery, New York; the Wexner center for the Arts, Moderna Museet, Stockholm. Emanuele Coccia is Maître de Conférence at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, after having taught History of Medieval Philosophy at the University of Freiburg. He is a specialist of Averroes and Averroism, from which he drew an original reflection on the images and on the medial nature of the sensitivity. Recently, he turned to an analysis of the moral implications of advertising. Among his publications are: La trasparenza delle immagini. Averroè e l’Averroismo (Milano 2005); Angeli. Ebraismo, Cristianesimo,Islam (co-edited with G. Agamben, Milano 2009); La vita sensibile (Bologna 2011); Il bene nelle cose. La pubblicità come discorso morale (Bologna 2014).
Matteo Nasini (b. Rome,1976) began his artistic path at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia, Rome. Starting from the sound, his work extends to installation, sculpture, drawing, photography. Among his recent group shows are: The Volume of Air, Serra dei Giardini, Venice; A Bed Is A Door, performance with Davide Stucchi, Villa Romana, Florence; Helicotrema, MACRO Museum, Radio3, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome; Villa Romana, Florence; FW2013RTW (KUDOS), Federica Schiavo Gallery, Rome; Smeared with the gold of the opulent sun, Nomas Foundation, Rome; Re-Generation, MACRO Museum, Rome; When in Rome, Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles. The Sudden Gust is the title of his latest artist’s edition (composed by an audio vinyl and artist’s prints) edited by Nero.
