- A series of short exhibitions at AlbumArteAlbumArte Via Flaminia 122, Rome (Italy)
For the third appointment of AlbumArte | Flash!, the independent and non-profit exhibition space for contemporary art AlbumArte presents Zaelia Bishop and his personal exhibition Uranio, Cemento e Grafite (Uranium, Cement and Graphite). The show is curated by Silvano Manganaro and open until May 16th (from Tuesday to Saturday 3:00 – 7:00pm). The exhibition highlights the last unexpected turn in the artist’s research and practice.
Uranio, Cemento e Grafite unveils a series of site specific works all of which have never been exhibited previously, expressing a completely new kind of focus and representing the most recent path developed by Bishop in the last couple of years. The works are designed as a reflection on margins and boundaries, both material and mental.
What’s beyond the limits of form? What delineates a space? What’s on the other side of the margin? Be it the irregular line drawn between two countries, the sides of a polygon, or the fragmented edge of a stone, Zaelia Bishop investigates these issues through his artistic process. Marble waste, pencil mines, organic and botanical objects become the catalysts to trigger a chain reaction in our thinking – inspiring a way to think differently and, perhaps, better.
AlbumArte | Flash! is a series of short-exhibitions hosted by AlbumArte for a maximum period of 15 days. The cycle includes itinerant shows, shows that focus on a specific artistic feature, shows for special events or shows that are produced by other foundations and museums, it Italy or abroad, presented for the first time to the public of Rome. These projects complete AlbumArte’s objectives, contributing to the development of a dynamic, inclusive platform for dialogue and confrontation that, as a young independent space, AlbumArte has established as in the city.
Zaelia Bishop was born in Rome in November 1977. His work – between collage and assemblage – aims to bring back and transfigure the symbols and boundaries of personal and collective memory in a contemporary context. Since 2016, he writes and directs the video-project Chasing Boundaries with Emanuele Napolitano. This project explores and describes the artistic and socio-political realities of countries with complex identities, through stories that unfold without any filter from the artists. Main personal exhibitions: Col Favore delle stelle (Muller & Glimpsel Galerie – Flaq, Paris, 2015); Novembre 1977 (Sala Santa Rita, Rome, 2013); Daedalus Rising (FabricaFluxus Gallery, Bari, 2011); Il Terzo Inverno (Galleria Ingresso Pericoloso, Rome, 2011); Anticamera delle Ceneri (C.I.A.C Museum, Genazzano, 2009); Diari dal Daedalo (Motelsalieri, Rome, 2008); Naturalia (DoraDiamanti arte contemporanea, Rome, 2007.
