Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 8pm\u00a0<\/strong>AlbumArte<\/em> presents <\/span>\u201cChasing Boundaries\u201d<\/strong>, a series of\u00a0documentary films focused on contemporary art by <\/span>Zaelia Bishop<\/strong> and <\/span>Emanuele Napolitano<\/strong>, official selected in\u00a0<\/span>Shorts films Corner of Festival de Cannes 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chasing Boundaries<\/em> was developed to describe the art practice with a video art approach and it\u2019s another \u00a0documentary \u00a0form \u00a0that \u00a0defies \u00a0the \u00a0plot \u00a0and \u00a0the \u00a0easily digested information and \u00a0opens sensory receptors to new modes of perception.
\n<\/span>The \u00a0aim \u00a0is \u00a0to \u00a0gather \u00a0different \u00a0voices \u00a0from distant \u00a0lands, \u00a0statements \u00a0of people that dealt \u00a0with the difficult and impossible and learned to transform those experiences into art. The interviews pull \u00a0the \u00a0viewer \u00a0into \u00a0the position \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0subject \u00a0and examines \u00a0how artists \u00a0work \u00a0with \u00a0images \u00a0of the everyday and give them a different meaning.
\n<\/span>This first chapter was shot in Israel where artists are currently responding to political, historical and \u00a0religious \u00a0issues \u00a0by \u00a0using \u00a0dynamic \u00a0and \u00a0experimental \u00a0artistic \u00a0practices. Every \u00a0interview \u00a0is entwined \u00a0with \u00a0images \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0city \u00a0life \u00a0and \u00a0wild \u00a0scenarios \u00a0to highlight \u00a0the \u00a0connections \u00a0between art, life, natural forces and human condition.\u00a0The artists interviewed in Chasing Boundaries are specifically \u00a0engaged \u00a0with \u00a0the \u00a0process of \u00a0re-describing \u00a0what \u00a0gets \u00a0made now, \u00a0dealing \u00a0with \u00a0what constitutes the image of the contemporary and with what the contemporary produce.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zaelia Bishop <\/strong>\/ Emanuele Napolitano\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Zaelia \u00a0Bishop \u00a0and Emanuele \u00a0Napolitano\u2019s \u00a0practice \u00a0is \u00a0based \u00a0on \u00a0observations \u00a0of encounter, interaction and \u00a0fusion \u00a0between \u00a0image \u00a0and \u00a0vision. \u00a0Their \u00a0projects examine \u00a0in particular \u00a0therelationship \u00a0with everyday \u00a0society, \u00a0identities \u00a0and connections \u00a0between images \u00a0and \u00a0social behaviour. \u00a0 Documentation, collection, \u00a0 the exploration \u00a0 of \u00a0 the \u00a0 artefactual \u00a0 dimension,\u00a0re-representations of images and spaces with various media, or creating a new presence for them, form Their practice. Zaelia Bishop and Emanuele Napolitano are interested in considerations of the possibility and impossibility of vision, or how images and visions in general can be practised any more today and exploring the life-span and cycles of an image and its topic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Valentina Gioia Levy<\/strong> (b.1979) \u00a0is an art critic, curator and writer based in Rome. Currently she teaches History of Contemporary Art and Design at Accademia ItalianaSince 2010, she collaborated with a number of museums and art galleries and cultural institutions all around the world by the like of \u00a0The Pompidou Centre (Paris, France); MACRO, Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome (Rome, ItalyMOG, Museum of Goa (Goa, India), OFF Biennale Cairo (Cairo, Egypt); RH Contemporary Art (New York, US) and Kochi Muziris Biennale (Kerala, India). At the moment she is guest curator of the forthcoming Dakar Biennale, under the direction of Simon Njami (Senegal, May 2016) and co-curator of LAM 360, Land Art Mongolia (August – september 2016).<\/span><\/p>\n

Paola Ugolini<\/strong>\u00a0|\u00a0lives and works in Rome. She is an independent curator and art critic. She writes regularly for Exibart and Il Giornale dell\u2019arte. Recent exhibitions include: Alice Schivardi<\/em>, Fondazione Pescheria, Pesaro, 2015, Fair Play. Arte, video e sport oltre i limiti e i confini<\/em>, Museo MAXXI, Rome, 2014, In queste stanze\u2026 Malandrino<\/em>, Gianni Politi, Galleria Nazionale d\u2019Arte Moderna, Rome, 2014, And What is left unsaid\u2026 Chittrovanu Mazumdar<\/em>, Museo Macro, Rome, 2014. She is part of the Scientific Committee of AlbumArte.<\/span><\/p>\n
