AlbumArte<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>opens\u00a0its exhibition space\u00a0in Rome with the first solo exhibition in\u00a0Italy\u00a0by Christine\u00a0Rebet,\u00a0Meltingsun<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>On\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday October 7th<\/sup> 2014<\/b>, there\u00a0will be the opening\u00a0in Rome of\u00a0the new\u00a0<\/span>exhibition space<\/b>\u00a0of the non-profit association\u00a0AlbumArte, which\u00a0has already launched\u00a0various projects, including\u00a0<\/span>Anteprima<\/i>,\u00a0a program of\u00a0artistic\u00a0residencies that has been held\u00a0since 2011\u00a0in Istanbul,\u00a0Paris, Prague and Rome\u00a0and that will soon\u00a0be conducted also\u00a0in Venice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The old ex-stable buildings of V<\/i>illa Poniatowsky<\/i> on Via Flaminia in north-central Rome, once a storage and deposit area for public transport vehicles, then used\u00a0by\u00a0AlbumArte as a workshop for artists in residence, have now become a multi-functional space for exhibitions, performances, workshops, video-screenings and\u00a0itinerant\u00a0artistic activities. The cultural projects\u00a0that will animate\u00a0the\u00a0AlbumArte\u00a0<\/i>space,\u00a0in addition to those promoted by the association in various\u00a0other venues,\u00a0will involve\u00a0artists who are able to\u00a0extend their\u00a0artistic practices beyond the scope\u00a0of the visual arts alone.\u00a0Motivated by the firm belief that it is\u00a0essential to solicit the active participation\u00a0of the public\u00a0AlbumArte\u00a0will host a range of dynamic and original projects, promoting the residencies of artists as well as dynamic interactions between artists, curators, associations, collectors,\u00a0museums and other\u00a0national and international institutions. The president of the association is Cristina Cobianchi<\/b>, while the artistic direction of the space has been entrusted to Maria Rosa\u00a0Sossai<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inaugurating the space of AlbumArte, on Tuesday 7th<\/sup> October at 6.30pm, there will be the first solo exhibition in Italy of Christine Rebet<\/b>. Entitled Meltingsun<\/i><\/b> it will be curated by Maria Rosa Sossai <\/b>and <\/b>Francesco Urbano Ragazzi<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This exhibition will be\u00a0the culmination of\u00a0an artist-in-residence programme\u00a0organized\u00a0by the Roman association, during which the French artist will work in close collaboration with the curatorial duo Francesco Urbano Ragazzi<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After\u00a0a long process of\u00a0exchange\u00a0and research conducted at a distance,\u00a0the artist and the curators are finally meeting in the project space\u00a0for contemporary art of AlbumArte in Rome in order to give birth to Meltingsun<\/i>: a blazing but totally artificial sun that comes alive in the drawings and sculptures of the French artist who currently lives\u00a0and works in Paris\u00a0and New York.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition presents the artist’s studio as it would appear if it were a maison de\u00a0 luxe<\/i>, with a totally anomalous production line\u00a0consisting of sketches, casts and metal\u00a0machines, in which the traces of a rather unlikely collection of jewels can be seen. Here the structures of the body proliferate\u00a0and re-emerge, transfigured and stripped of their sensational shine. A regal set of jewellery created by Mellerio dits Meller<\/i> \u2013 the oldest family of\u00a0jewellers in Europe that has been supplying queens from all over the\u00a0world\u00a0since the 17th<\/sup> century, when the firm was founded\u00a0under the patronage of\u00a0Marie de’ Medici \u2013 now loses its veneer of vanity and is transformed into voodoo amulets, chains, medals, shields and armour. Alongside the\u00a0radical reinterpretation\u00a0of royal dress codes,\u00a0Meltingsun<\/i> further explores the\u00a0language\u00a0of the privileged elite by appropriating its most typical gestures and expressions. As with the prototypes and\u00a0models\u00a0of a fashion collection, the titles\u00a0of Rebet\u2019s works resonate in the spaces of AlbumArte\u00a0with attractively\u00a0gracious irony, evoking fantasies that are by turns exotic, colonial, industrial and military, while artfully combining fashion with the imitation of nature:\u00a0Symphony of a satin chiffoneur, Heaven infused, Blue Maidens, Duchess on Tortoise Escape, Duet Solomite, Steamline crusaders, Wasteland, Nap in Hamada, N\u00e9cessaire pour H\u00e9riti\u00e8re.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition Meltingsun<\/i> is the crowning point\u00a0of a process\u00a0of\u00a0research that started\u00a0with\u00a0Duplex<\/i><\/b>, a project by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi and AlbumArte, which developed during the\u00a0curatorial duo’s period of residency\u00a0at the Cit\u00e9 des Arts<\/i><\/b> <\/i>in Paris in February, 2014. It is part of the official agenda of the event Tandem Paris<\/i><\/b> Rome 2014<\/i><\/b>, a\u00a0cultural twinning scheme<\/em> <\/i>between Paris and Rome, in collaboration with the Mairie de Paris, Cit\u00e9 des Arts de Paris, Institut Fran\u00e7ais, Roma Capitale <\/b>and the\u00a0Department of Culture\u00a0of the Municipality of\u00a0Rome<\/b>\u00a0(Paris\u00a0| Rome\u00a0February 1st<\/sup> –\u00a0December 13th<\/sup>, 2014<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

During the first part\u00a0of their residency,\u00a0promoted\u00a0by the\u00a0Direction des\u00a0Affaires\u00a0Culturelles\u00a0de la\u00a0Ville de Paris<\/i>, the two\u00a0curators\u00a0began\u00a0an investigation into the\u00a0art scene\u00a0of Paris, in collaboration with various important figures who are particularly active in the contemporary art scene in the city.\u00a0These included: Kathy Alliou<\/b>, the\u00a0head of\u00a0the\u00a0department of scientific and cultural development of the\u00a0\u00c9cole Nationale Superieure de Beaux Arts<\/i>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Marianne Derrien<\/b>,\u00a0an independent critic and curator \u2013\u00a0Elisabeth Lebovici<\/b>,\u00a0<\/b>an art critic and professor at the\u00a0\u00c9cole des Hautes \u00c9tudes en Sciences Sociales<\/i> \u2013 Claire Le Restif<\/b>, <\/b>the\u00a0director of the\u00a0Cr\u00e9dac Centre\u00a0d’art contemporain d’Ivry<\/i> \u2013 Christian Merlhiot<\/b>,\u00a0the head of\u00a0the\u00a0Pavillon Neuflize OBC<\/i>\u00a0(Palais de Tokyo<\/i>) \u2013\u00a0Caroline Ni\u00e9mant<\/b>,\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0curator and founder of the magazine\u00a0Peeping Tom<\/i>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/b>Chiara Parisi<\/b>,\u00a0the\u00a0director of the cultural programs of the\u00a0Monnaiede Paris<\/i>\u00a0\u2013 and\u00a0Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Rettig<\/b>,\u00a0the\u00a0director of\u00a0the new media festival\u00a0Les Rencontres Internationales<\/i>. Out of the over 100 artists that the two curators met in Paris, together \u00a0with Cristina Cobianchi and Maria Rosa Sossai they finally selected the artist Christine Rebet for the residency and solo show in Rome, in which Rebet will develop and integrate the discourse that she began in Paris with the curators and critics, regarding the idea of \u200b\u200bthe \u201cspatialization\u201d of the drawing.
