PRESS RELEASE >>>
For the fifth appointment of the AlbumArte | Flash! series, it will inaugurate at AlbumArte, independent space for contemporary art in Rome, the solo show of the artist Iulia Ghiță named LANDSCAPE 2 LANDSCAPE 4, curated by Marta Silvi. New date to be defined soon!
The exhibition will offer an exhaustive view of the artistic path, research and poetics of the young Romanian artist, who has completed her studies in Italy, hosting site-specific works that make up two specific projects. Marta Silvi is at her second curating experience at AlbumArte, where she curated in February 2018 the double solo show Quite solo, with the artists Dario Agati and Fabio Giorgi Alberti presenting a series of unpublished pictorial and installation works, winners ex aequo of Dancity Open Call 2017 Control Reversal as part of the Dancity Art Session, on the occasion of the Dancity Festival -11th edition.
The work of Iulia Ghiță has a strong installative character, even when it employs drawing and painting, as well as photography and video. The artist is interested in the relationship/conflict/tension that is triggered by the limit of human dimension and the attempt to give a finished form to incomprehensible things. The project presented, LANDSCAPE 2 LANDSCAPE 4, revolves around three bodies of works: two multi-channel video installations that display different corners of nature and which give the title to the exhibition, LANDSCAPE 2 (2017/2018) and LANDSCAPE 4 (2018-20), and numerous drawings on paper displayed on the wall that intersect in some parts with the projections, LIFE FROM HERSELF (UNDERSTOOD) (2016/20).
The works exhibited here in AlbumArte aims at intensifying the admired gaze towards nature as an alternative way of knowledge to the investigation and to the presumption of empathy. A way of seeing and understanding life “as it is” subsequently found by the artist in the theories of the Swiss philosopher Paul Häberlin, who understood life in a similar way.
The exhibition, which offers a comprehensive view of Iulia Ghiță artistic path, research and poetics, has been created with the support of the Romanian Academy in Rome and the Romanian Cultural Institute and in collaboration with the Biennio Comunicazione e Didattica dell’Arte – Indirizzo Curatoriale – Corso Video e Fotografia, Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Thanks to Cornelia Lauf and Ex Elettrofonica.

AlbumArte | FLASH! is a series of short-exhibitions hosted by AlbumArte for a maximum period of 15 days. The cycle includes itinerant shows, shows that focus on a specific artistic feature, shows for special events or shows that are produced by other foundations and museums, it Italy or abroad, presented for the first time to the public of Rome. These projects complete AlbumArte’s objectives, contributing to the development of a dynamic, inclusive platform for dialogue and confrontation that, as a young independent space, AlbumArte has established as in the city.
